Background
Dr Amanda Foster began her career in marine biology at the University of Southampton, where she completed her PhD on microplastic accumulation in North Sea filter feeders. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, she joined the Environment Agency in 2008, rising to Chief Scientist for the South West region by 2015. During her tenure, she led multiple cross-agency initiatives on water quality, plastic pollution monitoring, and coastal ecosystem restoration. She left the Agency in 2024 to focus on academic research and consultancy, and now serves as a visiting professor at the University of Plymouth's School of Biological and Marine Sciences.
